Raymi0603, Was (PAST TENSE) a GRAT app. Now, I’m looking for anther app. I’ve been usig Foreast Bar on my Mac, iPhone and apple watch for years and it has been the best weather app. Very reliable.
I still use the app on my iPhone and on my watch, but the Mac app is useless (I’ve switched to Carrot weather). The app on the menu bar used to show the weather conditions and the current temperature. Now, It only shows an icon that isn’t even accurate. At my current location we will be currently experiencing heavy thunderstorms, yet the icon shows cloudy. In order to get the accurate weather I have to open the app.
The reason that I loved Forecast Bar was beacuse I could see the current weather while I could continue to work on my laptop. Now, if I want to see the weather conditions I have to stop what I’m doing and open the full app. What’s the point of having aything that doesn’t work taking space on my menu bar. I’ve deleted the app app and installed Carrot Weather which does what Forecast Bar used to do. My ipHone/watch app expires next month and I’m currently looking for a reliable app that works on all three. If I find that app and Forecast Bar does not fix the Mac glithch by then I will not renew my Phone/watch app and I’ll switch to theother app. I hope that Forecast Bar developers read the reviews and fix this issue because I really like Forecast Bar, but I won’t pay for something that doesn’t work.
Developer Response, Thank you for reaching out. With our latest update we included world-class weather from The Weather Company, which uses IBMs Watson to power forecasts with data from personal weather stations across the globe. We'd encourage you to give it another try! We'd encourage you to give it another try! A-Dev-who-is-also-a-user, Simply, simply The developers of this application are geniuses! Having the Mac menu bar app schedule push notifications to update the iOS app icon badge is amazing!
Besides that though, this app is an easy way to see the temperature in your menu bar. I like how you can adjust how much detail you want to show so you can have a sun icon or just the temperature. The weather radar is a nice feature. I haven’t gotten a chance to see the rain notifications because it doesn’t rain much where I live. I like the daily summaries, but on the iOS app they always come at 12:00 am (midnight) instead of 8:00 am like I have scheduled.
Other than that minor disorder, this app is amazing, couldn’t ask for better. A-Dev-who-is-also-a-user, Simply, simply The developers of this application are geniuses! I find that the linking of Mac to iOS devices is clumsy and counterintuitive. However, my main issue is now the subscription implementation.
Ever since my subscription expired, I have been unable to renew it because the process hangs during finalization and then fails to respond unless the system is rebooted - at which point it hangs again on the next try. I’m not very motivated to continue trying, since I’m already paying for the same data subscription on the iOS side and don’t much appreciate being billed again for the same thing. At least the subscription purchasing system works on the iOS platform. Mglamb, Reasonable app, poor subscription implementation. Weather reports are so vague: “50% chance of rain.” “Scattered showers.” I don’t know about you, but for me, that kind of “information” isn’t very informative. I care about the weather because I want to know whether it’s going to rain after I wash my car, or whether I have time to mow the lawn before it rains, or whether that football game I’m thinking of attending is going to be played in the rain or not. It’s a lot to ask, but someone’s delivered, and no it is NOT “Doppler Radar 3000” or whatever they’re pushing on TV these days. Instead, it’s an iPhone and iPad app called. Is a beautiful app, and I’ve had it on my iPhone for years.
You should get it too– there’s nothing else as good when it comes to predicting rain. (Temperature predictions are good too, but it’s precipitation predictions where Dark Sky Weather really stands out.) “Beautiful” is nice, but a beautiful weather app isn’t worth much if its data isn’t spot-on. The Dark Sky Weather app uses its own data sources, and I don’t really know how they do it, but it is really great. (There’s a, powered by the same data, and it’s very handy for when you want a bigger picture and you have a computer nearby.) With this data, the Dark Sky Weather app and website provide hyper-local forecasts for you, letting you know precisely whether it’s going to rain or not in any particular location (and even more precisely for the next hour). Santa Monica weather (via DarkSky.net) I use Dark Sky Weather all the time, most recently today when the morning started out rainy. I wondered how long the rain would continue.
The Dark Sky Weather app told me what I needed to know: the rain would stop in 45 minutes. Rain stopping in 45 minutes The Dark Sky Weather app is fun to explore. Drag up and see the day’s weather at a glance– hour by hour. Swipe from right to left and see the week’s weather at a glance. Tap a day and see that’s day’s weather.
(Based on these pictures, I can see that it’s going to be a cloudy weekend, with just a little drizzle Sunday morning.) Dark Sky Weather forecast for the week Drizzle from 9 AM to noon More fun stuff: swipe from left to right to see a globe showing current precipitation. Rotate the globe with your finger, zoom with the two-finger stretch, tap the Play button to see the weather changing over time. In a way, I wish I lived where it rained more so I could play around with Dark Sky Weather more. Dark Sky Weather globe, showing rain off the California coast Heavy rain along the northern California coast Dark Sky Weather licenses its data and other apps do use it, so in that sense other apps are able to predict the weather just as well as Dark Sky Weather. But Dark Sky Weather does it the best– the app is clean, pretty, and fun, while providing excellent information.
I’ve tried a lot of weather apps, and Dark Sky Weather’s the best. As of this writing, Dark Sky Weather is $3.99.
